He was the most legendary alchemist of the 14th century. Rumor has it that he was able to turn stones into gold and lived over six hundred years with his wife. He was Nicolas Flamel, a household name indeed. The achievements he attained in his lifetime were the dream of many alchemists.
Born in 1330, he initially was an ordinary bookseller in Paris, making a living by selling books and copying manuscripts. Years of copying work helped him create his unique handwriting style. Many nobles, therefore, came to him for transcription of some rare manuscripts. One day, a stranger brought him a very rare manuscript. Nicolas immediately recognized the puzzle-like symbols on the pages. Although these symbol-filled papers were simply used as letterheads, they still contained the core notions of alchemy.
After years of relentless effort, Nicolas finally deciphered those symbols. By merging red stones and mercury, he successfully extracted the legendary Philosopher's Stone. His discovery soon circulated among alchemists, granting him extraordinary fame. His life was mysterious but legendary. No one knew how many years he lived. Perhaps his story will still be continued by himself.
