Rise of Empires Hero - Theodora

Theodora co-governed the Byzantine Empire with the emperor. She enacted a range of laws and made many reforms to make the empire grow and thrive and grant women more rights and better status. With her wisdom and personal charisma, Theodora won the support of the people. In 532 AD, an uprising took place in Byzantium. Frightened by the situation, Emperor Justinian decided to run away. It was Theodora who stopped him. She said, "The one who wears the crown should not settle for failure. I will never let anyone rid me of my title. If you still want to leave, Your Majesty, I wish you good luck. The ship is out there, and the sea will welcome you with open arms. As for me, I will stay here." Her composure impressed Justinian and many ministers. Eventually, Justinian pulled himself together and quelled the rebellion. The way Empress Theodora governed the empire embodied her generosity and wisdom, justice and courage. Her perseverance and bravery made her a legend in history.
